Luke 14: 12-14
Then Jesus said to his host, "When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous." God truly does take the broken Christians of this world and uses them for His glory. My name is Toby and my husband, Rick, and I feel passionate about our calling to the unwanted disabled of this world. After being struck down by a car in 1975 which left me with a rare form of Rheumatoid Arthritis. I currently have undergone over 30 surgeries and have been bound to a wheelchair for 20+ years. I can truly say God has done a miracle in my life. After serving on two mission trips to the former Soviet Union with the Josh McDowell Ministry (Operation Carelift), as well as serving several times in the jungles of Mexico, God revived in us a deep need and desire to serve Him. Being bound to a wheelchair how does one begin? In the year 2000 Wheels of Love was born. Our desire is to lead the broken of this world into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We do that by providing wheelchairs, Bibles in the native tongue, and computers (when possible). We recently incorporated a Christ-centered video street ministry into our approach to reach the lost; this has already produced fruit and is an effective outreach resource that we hope to be able to continue from now on. WOL uses these items and methods as tools to soften the hearts of the unbeliever so that the Gospel message can be presented and received. We saw first-hand, how this ministry model can effectively be used by observing the Josh McDowell Ministry in action while in Russia. Josh explained that by meeting people’s important physical needs one is able to gain credibility in the field. The recipients of this approach become more willing to listen, the rest is up to the Lord. Well, we firmly believe that God has called us and has been equipping Wheels of Love from the very beginning. We have asked the Lord to give us wisdom and discernment and we trust Him at His word to do that in His own time. Rick and I will be celebrating our 26th wedding anniversary this November. Please join us in prayer and in spirit as we depart for Kenya in September 2007 to hand fit over 60 disabled children with brand new wheelchairs. Truly in our weakness they shall see His strength! His strength is made visible through our weakness.
